The National Police have arrested a 44-year-old woman in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, accused of stealing jewelry valued at 15,000 euros through the "unfaithful employee" method.

The investigation began after a citizen reported the disappearance of several pieces of jewelry from their home, valued at approximately 13,000 euros. National Police agents initiated inquiries to clarify the facts.
Initial investigations revealed that the alleged perpetrator gained access to homes for cleaning tasks, exploiting the trust established with victims, primarily elderly individuals, to steal valuable items. This modus operandi, known as the "unfaithful employee" method, relies on the abuse of trust by domestic workers or caregivers towards vulnerable people.
During the process, some of the stolen jewelry was located in a precious metals resale establishment, which allowed for the identification of the suspect. Furthermore, it was discovered that the detainee had committed another similar theft at an elderly care residential center where she had previously worked, stealing jewelry worth about 2,000 euros.

The investigation has allowed for the detection of several incidents with the same 'modus operandi,' and agents have managed to recover part of the stolen jewelry.

The National Police continue the investigation and do not rule out the existence of more victims, as the rapid circulation of stolen items in the second-hand market makes their location difficult. The public is urged to collaborate, and anyone who may have been a victim of similar incidents is asked to come forward to police stations to file a report.
