The competition, last held fifteen years ago, will bring together the twelve best Canary Island teams, both male and female, in a high-level sporting event. The tournament promises to deliver the excitement and spectacle of the archipelago's top clubs.
The official presentation took place in the Multipurpose Hall of the Vice-Ministry of Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands. Attendees included Ángel Sabroso, Vice-Minister of Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands; Carla Campoamor, Councilor for Physical Activity and Sports of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council; Leticia López, Manager of the Insular Institute of Sports of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria; and Roberto Melián, President of the Canary Islands Volleyball Federation, along with representatives from participating clubs.
Ángel Sabroso highlighted the high standard of Canary Islands volleyball, calling it "by far the best in Spain" and a national benchmark. He noted that the tournament will serve as preparation for the start of the season and allow fans to enjoy "the best national volleyball on our land."
Carla Campoamor emphasized the importance of volleyball in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, noting it as one of the sports with the most federative licenses in the city and with teams competing in Superliga 1 and 2. She stressed that the tournament will be held in a pavilion where "many children" practice sports daily.
Leticia López stated that the support from the Cabildo de Gran Canaria for elite teams is reciprocated by their professionalism, achievement of objectives, and cultivation of young talent and fan enthusiasm.
Roberto Melián expressed the Canary Islands Volleyball Federation's pride in the clubs' level. He confirmed that preparations are already underway for the next edition, which will be held on the island of Tenerife, and shared his enthusiasm for offering the Canary Islands volleyball community the chance to see all local clubs compete in a single event.
The competition will feature six teams in the men's category: CV Guaguas, Cisneros La Laguna, CV Gupane Guía, CV Bus Leader San Roque, CV Suac Canarias, and Arona Spring In Motion. The women's field will include: Heidelberg Volkswagen, CV Emalsa Gran Canaria, Fedes Ascensores La Laguna, Tenerife Libby´s La Laguna, Santa Cruz Cuesta Piedra, and Sayre CC La Ballena.
As a novelty, the SAR system will be implemented for the first time, a video review system to assist referees in decision-making and add spectacle to the competition.
The competition will kick off on Friday, September 25th, with the first matches at 9:00 AM. Saturday, the 26th, will feature the semifinals for both categories, including the entry of the seeded teams. The finals will take place on Sunday, the 27th: the women's final at 10:00 AM and the men's final at 12:30 PM. Tickets, priced at 15 euros for a full tournament pass, are available through the designated sales platform and at the venue.
The 2026 Canary Islands Government Volleyball Cup is organized by the Canary Islands Volleyball Federation with the support of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria (through its Insular Institute of Sports), and the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council (through the Municipal Institute for the Promotion of Physical Activity and Sports). Collaborators include the Spanish Volleyball Federation, Howden, and Hummel.
