The municipal football field in Barrio Atlántico, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has been renamed in honor of Gonzalo Moreno Saavedra, recognizing his distinguished sporting career and contribution to the social life of the neighborhood.

The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council held an official ceremony this Tuesday to unveil the new name of the facility, previously announced by Mayor Carolina Darias. A commemorative plaque, a replica of the one already displayed at the field, was presented to Gonzalo Moreno Saavedra.
The tribute was attended by the Councilor for Sports, Carla Campoamor; the Councilor for the Ciudad Alta District, Betsaida González; the honoree's family members; representatives from the Interinsular Football Federation of Las Palmas, including Reinaldo Montesdeoca, Hilarión Rodríguez, and Daniel Pita; as well as spokespersons from the political groups of the Partido Popular and Coalición Canaria.
The naming of the field acknowledges Gonzalo Moreno Saavedra's dedication to grassroots football and his commitment to the social development of the La Feria neighborhood. Through the Club de Fútbol Barrio Atlántico, he fostered sports participation among children and young people, promoting values such as respect and teamwork. His work extended beyond sports, engaging in community life and collaborating with various organizations.
The Club de Fútbol Barrio Atlántico has also been a starting point for professional footballers such as Yeremy Pino, Jonathan Viera, Jesé Rodríguez, Sandro Ramírez, David Simón, and Carmelo Jiménez, among others. This initiative, announced in June and supported by the Interinsular Football Federation of Las Palmas and all political groups, culminates the recognition of a key figure in grassroots sports and the community.
