The Minister of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports, Poli Suárez, and the Vice-Minister of Physical Activity and Sports, Ángel Sabroso, presided this Tuesday over the deliberation and voting to determine the proposed honorees for the 2026 Canary Islands Sports Awards across the nine categories.
The jury, composed of 32 sports communication professionals from the archipelago and chaired by Norberto González, participated both in person at the headquarters of the Vice-Ministry of Physical Activity and Sports in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and remotely to deliberate and register their votes for this third edition of the gala.
After evaluating the candidacies, the jury submitted its proposal of honorees to the Ministry. The names of those distinguished in the categories of individual athlete, club of the year, promising athlete, technical direction, refereeing work, female role model, adapted sports, sports promotion and diffusion, and honorary mention will be announced soon.
The awards ceremony will be held on November 13 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Additionally, three other categories related to indigenous sports will be awarded, with voting to be carried out by an independent jury comprising the presidents of the eight federations of traditional sports and games of the Canary Islands.
