The Commissioner for Transparency and Access to Public Information of the Canary Islands, Noelia García, highlighted the ULPGC's commitment to active publicity, transparency, and accountability, after achieving the highest score in the latest evaluation of the Canary Islands Transparency Index (ITCanarias) 2025. During her institutional visit, she was received by the rector, Lluís Serra, and the secretary general, Inma González.
The Commissioner reported that the institution has no pending claims before the Commissioner regarding the right of access to public information so far this year, reflecting the effective functioning of its information mechanisms. García congratulated the ULPGC and offered the Commissioner's collaboration to strengthen the culture of transparency.
The meeting also served to discuss potential lines of collaboration and joint future projects, particularly those aimed at training and raising awareness among university students on transparency and the right of access to public information. The goal is to bring these rights closer to new generations and foster democratic participation and control.
Both parties agreed on the importance of promoting these initiatives, leveraging the ULPGC's educational capacity as a key agent in knowledge generation and transmission. The Commissioner thus reaffirms its commitment to strengthening collaboration with Canary Islands universities to promote a more informed society committed to democratic values.
