A 44-year-old woman has been arrested in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria by the National Police, accused of stealing 15,000 euros worth of jewelry from elderly people using the 'unfaithful employee' method.

The arrest, carried out on April 7, concludes an investigation initiated after a victim reported the disappearance of jewelry valued at approximately 13,000 euros. Initial inquiries revealed that the thefts coincided with the presence of a woman who performed cleaning duties at the residence, exploiting the trust built with the affected individual.
Police efforts led to the identification of the alleged perpetrator and the location of some of the stolen items at a second-hand goods store, where they were in the process of being sold. During the investigation, officers uncovered a second case with a similar pattern at an elderly residential center where the detainee had previously worked, with the value of the stolen jewelry amounting to approximately 2,000 euros.
Investigators have confirmed that the woman carried out other jewelry sales transactions at various establishments. However, to date, not all potential victims related to these incidents have been identified. The National Police maintains an open investigation and does not rule out the existence of more affected individuals.

The 'unfaithful employee' method involves the theft of valuable items from private homes or care centers by exploiting the trust placed in individuals responsible for domestic or care tasks, which facilitates both the commission of the crime and the rapid sale of the stolen items on the second-hand market.

Therefore, the National Police requests public cooperation and encourages elderly individuals or their relatives who may have been victims of similar incidents to file a report at police stations. Officers continue to work towards the full clarification of the facts and the location of new victims.
