The General Directorate of Blood Donation and Hemotherapy of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) has deployed a mobile unit to Santa Brígida, where it will be operational until next Wednesday. The donation space is located next to the town's Town Hall and is open from 10:00 AM to 1:45 PM and from 5:00 PM to 8:45 PM.
The SCS reminds the public of the importance of regular donations throughout the year to ensure the availability of blood and its components, which are essential for surgical interventions, medical and oncological treatments, as well as for attending to patients requiring transfusions. Therefore, it encourages citizens who meet the requirements to donate regularly.
In addition to the mobile unit, there are fixed donation points in Gran Canaria. The main center is located at Alfonso XIII street, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, open Monday to Wednesday from 9:15 AM to 8:30 PM and Thursday and Friday from 8:15 AM to 8:30 PM (except holidays). This location also has a driveway for donors.
The fixed point in Santa Lucía de Tirajana, in the annex of the Vecindario Health Center, operates on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:15 PM to 8:15 PM, Tuesdays from 10:15 AM to 1:15 PM and from 5:15 PM to 8:15 PM, and Thursdays and Fridays from 9:15 AM to 1:15 PM.
Hospitals also offer donation points without prior appointment: the Insular Hospital receives donors Monday to Friday from 10:30 AM to 7:30 PM; the Maternal and Child Hospital, Monday to Friday from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM; and the Gran Canaria Dr. Negrín University Hospital, Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 7:30 PM.
At Hospiten Roca San Agustín, donations can be made on Fridays from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, by requesting an appointment at telephone number 928 301 012 (option 8), except on holidays.
The basic requirements to donate blood include being between eighteen and 65 years old (up to sixty for a first donation), weighing more than fifty kilograms, being in good general health, and not being pregnant.
