The event, organized by the Insular Federation of Gran Canaria of Taekwondo and Associated Disciplines, will bring together athletes and clubs for kyorugui, the combat modality of taekwondo. The goal is to foster the exchange of experiences and coexistence among Canarian entities.
The organizing federation highlights that the championship was created with the aim of “opening the competition to all clubs in the Canary Islands, promoting participation, sports coexistence, and the growth of taekwondo in our community.” They also emphasize their commitment to holding quality sports events and promoting the discipline's values, such as respect, discipline, and personal improvement.
Cristhian Santana Caballero, Councilor for Physical Activity and Sports of the Telde City Council, has encouraged citizens to attend the sports venue in Jinámar to enjoy the day. "It is a good opportunity to bring taekwondo closer to the public and enjoy the work done by athletes and clubs," he stated, inviting residents of Telde and Gran Canaria to witness this sporting event, which will also highlight important values such as respect, coexistence, and self-improvement.
The II Gran Canaria Kyorugui Open 2026 will thus turn Jinámar into a meeting point for taekwondo fans and those wishing to learn more about this sport.
