The Telde City Council, through the Department of Physical Activity and Sports, has congratulated local athlete Shaiel Suárez Rodríguez for his achievement at the world championship. The athlete, belonging to Club Kickboxing Coleta, secured the silver medal in the K1 -60 kg ring category.
Suárez competed in four bouts, defeating opponents from Greece, the United States, and Poland before reaching the final. In the decisive match, he lost by points to Bulgarian Yasen Dragominov in a high-level technical contest.
“"Shaiel Suárez's world runner-up title is a source of pride for Telde and a reflection of the talent, effort, and dedication of our athletes. This result demonstrates the great work being done at the grassroots level in our clubs. The City Council will continue to support the growth of local sports and accompany our young people in their national and international projection."
Suárez's success also highlights the work of Club Kickboxing Coleta and its coach, Yeray ‘El Coleta’. The Spanish national team concluded the championship with a historic record in the junior category, earning a total of 26 medals (6 gold, 6 silver, and 14 bronze), ranking 14th in the world standings.
