On the occasion of October 15th, International Day of Rural Women, Telde will host the exhibition ‘Women of the Earth: Sowing Memory in Telde’. This initiative seeks to recognize and value the fundamental contribution of women to the social, cultural, and agricultural history of the municipality.
The exhibition will be inaugurated on Friday, October 2nd, at 7:00 PM, in the hall of the Iglesia Hospitalaria de San Pedro Mártir, and will be open until October 15th.
The proposal aims to recover the memory of the women of Telde who, from rural and family settings, contributed to the development of their families, neighborhoods, and the agricultural tradition of the municipality. Through art, creativity, and words, the exhibition looks to the past to recognize those who sowed, cared for, and passed on knowledge.
The exhibition will feature the work of 26 artists, including Makita Alonso Benítez, Loli Vega Velázquez, Esther Amador, Pino Jiménez Guedes, Dory Ramírez Ventura, Esther Coco, Fátima Domínguez Martel, Rachel AR, Helena Lorenzo, Isidora Lorenzo Hernández, Inmaculada Hernández Suárez, Luisa Afonso Navarro, Lidia Esther Rivero, Paqui Álvarez Monzón, Lidia Díaz, María Jesús Peña Santana, Maricarmen Martín, Toña Monzón, Alica Torres Pulido, Lou Solares Jiménez, Ángeles Díaz León, Manoli Figueroa Hernández, Elena Déniz Hernández, Nekane Melón, Esther Benítez Benítez, and Cosetta Falasco.
Words will have special prominence with the participation of six poets: Mapi Jerez Cabrera, Conchi Miranda Galván, Inmaculada Betancor, Pino Monzón Padrón, Lou Solares Jiménez, and María Almenara. Their contributions will enrich the collective look at memory and roots.
The project is completed with workshops and participatory activities focused on women, land, memory, and nature. Participants include Helena Lorenzo, Makita Alonso Benítez, Mapi Jerez, Zenaida Rodríguez, Emma Lemes Pérez, Carmen Domínguez Hernández, Eli Machín Martín, Inmaculada Hernández Suárez, and Manoli Figueroa.
The local group Gaura Folk will accompany the inauguration with songs related to the experiences of women from the past, recovering musical and cultural memory.
The initiative, organized by the Culture Department of the Telde City Council and the municipal company GESTEL, is a collective tribute and an invitation for new generations to value this legacy.
