The series, running between September and December, comprises four free sessions starting at 7:00 PM. The initiative aims to explore the link between contemporary art and fashion, languages that share a focus on aesthetics and continuously blur their boundaries, as demonstrated by historical collaborations such as Yves Saint Laurent's with Mondrian's compositions or Elsa Schiaparelli's with Dalí.
The first session, titled ‘Dressing to Exist: Fashion, Art, and Performance in Identity Construction’, will be held on September 30th at the Juan Ismael Art Center (Fuerteventura) and on October 1st at La Regenta (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria). Expert Ana María Velasco Molpeceres will discuss fashion as a tool for identity construction and artistic practice, from 19th-century dandies to contemporary figures.
The second lecture, ‘Fashion as Total Work of Art’, will be given by Arianna Giorgi on October 21st in Fuerteventura and October 22nd in Gran Canaria. It will focus on the relationship between art and the body, examining dresses and accessories as constructions that transform silhouette and spatial occupation.
The series continues on November 11th in Fuerteventura and November 12th in Gran Canaria with ‘Men's Fashion or the Triumph of Versatility over Severity’, presented by Carlos Javier Castro Brunetto. This session challenges the notion that variety and experimentation in men's clothing are recent phenomena, showing its historical use as a space for creativity.
The program concludes on December 2nd at Juan Ismael and December 3rd at La Regenta with ‘Sheltered from Cold and Warmed by Vanities’. David Martín López will analyze the evolution of the coat, from its practical function to its transformation into a powerful element of social communication, closing the cycle that proposes viewing fashion not as an accessory but as part of art history and visual culture.
Attendance at the lectures is free. Sessions at La Regenta require prior registration via their website, while those held in Fuerteventura do not need registration.
