The gala, part of the commemoration of Telde's 675th anniversary, is scheduled for November 7. The Spokespersons' Board held a meeting to discuss preparations and the composition of the committee responsible for the procedure.
The process saw significant citizen participation, with over 30 proposals received from residents, groups, and entities during the 30-day period for submitting candidacies. These proposals will form the basis for the committee's work in studying and processing the nominations according to the municipal Honors and Distinctions Regulations.
The committee will be chaired by the Mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña, and will include representation from the political parties present in the City Council. It will also feature the Official Chronicler of the City, Antonio María González Padrón, as an ex officio member, and five individuals nominated for their contributions in social, cultural, sports, and solidarity fields.
Political representation will include María Desirée Hernández Martín and Cristhian Santana Caballero (Ciuca–Ciudadanos para el Cambio); Alejandro Ramos Guerra and Inés Pulido García (PSOE); José Luis Macías Santana and María Celeste López Medina (Nueva Canarias); Iván Sánchez Estévez (Partido Popular); Juan Francisco Martel Santana (Coalición Canaria); Juan Francisco Artiles Carreño (Más por Telde); and Rita Esmeralda Cabrera Sánchez (Vox).
To ensure impartiality, the voting on candidacies will be conducted in secret, and committee members will not know the identity of those who submitted each proposal, aiming for fairness, freedom of vote, and an assessment focused on the merits of the candidates.
The committee's proposed composition includes five individuals with diverse profiles: Daniel Sánchez Calero, with over 18 years of experience at the Spanish Red Cross; Daniel Rivero Suárez, involved in the neighborhood movement and the defense of natural heritage; Yurena Santana Rodríguez, president of the ChapoTEA Association, focused on the inclusion of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (TEA); Francisco González Vizcaíno, founder of the Club de Bola Canaria y Petanca Gerardo Rodríguez; and María Dolores Falcón Alfonso, a music professor and municipal worker linked to the Telde Municipal Music Band.
This year's Honors and Distinctions ceremony takes on special significance by coinciding with the commemoration of Telde's 675th anniversary, providing a framework to recognize individuals and groups who have contributed to the city's social, cultural, and community life.
