The Telde City Council has suspended planned institutional inauguration events following the announcement of general elections by the Spanish Government.

The Telde City Council has decided to suspend institutional acts for the inauguration and reopening of public facilities, works, and services scheduled for the coming weeks. This measure is taken following the Spanish Government's announcement of the call for general elections, with the corresponding Royal Decree expected to be published this Tuesday, October 6, in the Official State Gazette (BOE).
The decision is based on the provisions of the Organic Law on the General Electoral Regime (LOREG), which establishes certain limitations on acts organized by public authorities during electoral periods. The council has opted for institutional prudence and responsibility, suspending planned inauguration events to avoid any format that could raise doubts regarding compliance with electoral regulations.
The suspension of events does not mean the paralysis or delay of public service implementation. Facilities scheduled for opening that meet the necessary conditions will begin providing service on their initially planned dates, but they will do so directly and without institutional inauguration or reopening ceremonies.
One of the affected events was the reopening of the Paco Artiles Municipal Sports Center, scheduled for this Wednesday, October 7. Although the institutional ceremony is suspended, the facilities will open and begin providing normal service on Thursday, October 8, as planned.
The reopening ceremony for the sports center will be rescheduled to a date after the electoral period, likely in December, when it can be held normally with the participation of institutions, sports entities, and citizens. The same decision will apply to all other institutional inaugurations, reopenings, or presentations of public facilities and services scheduled in the coming weeks.
The mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña, stated that the decision is based on a criterion of “institutional responsibility and absolute respect for the rules of the electoral period.” He affirmed, “Given the announcement of the general elections, and awaiting their official publication in the BOE, we have decided to act with maximum prudence. We do not want any institutional act to generate doubts about compliance with electoral regulations.”
Peña emphasized that this decision does not affect the functioning of public services. “Suspending an institutional act is one thing, and paralyzing a service is quite another. Facilities that are ready to open will open and be available to citizens on the scheduled dates. What we are postponing are the events, not the services,” he explained.
The mayor added that the City Council will maintain this approach throughout the electoral period. “Institutional responsibility requires us to clearly separate daily management from any act that could have a political or electoral interpretation. Public services must continue, and citizens must be able to use them normally, but institutional events can wait,” he stated.
The Telde City Council will provide information on the new dates for those suspended events that can be held once the electoral period has concluded.
