The Leal Theater in La Laguna hosted last night the celebration of the 2026 "Mujer de Hoy" Awards, an annual event organized by the Center for Initiatives and Tourism (CIT) Nordeste of Tenerife. The aim is to recognize the work, dedication, and contribution of women who carry out their work in rural environments of Tenerife.
María Reyes Benítez, affectionately known as "La Comadre" and a resident of Las Rosas, was honored by the municipality of El Rosario. This award acknowledges her struggle, perseverance, and pioneering spirit as the first woman to captain a bowls team, paving the way for other women in a traditional sport.
The award ceremony was attended by the first deputy mayor, Fátima Gutiérrez, the councilor for Culture, Eric Díaz, and the president of the CIT Nordeste, Mateo Gutiérrez.
During the same evening, Carmen García Pascual, Corporate Director of Communication and Marketing and councilor for Grupo Montesano, was also awarded. In her case, the CIT Nordeste recognized her leadership, roots, and business excellence.
