Bouza Alley, a street connecting San Francisco with La Marina Street, near Plaza de Isabel II, will be closed to traffic for three weeks due to rehabilitation works carried out by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council. The objective is to remove the existing cobblestones and replace them with asphalt.
The intervention, part of the Impulso Urbano program, began on Monday, July 13, and has a budget of 58,000 euros. During the work, circulation in the alley will be prohibited, and garage access will be restricted according to the different phases of the project.
The work involves the manual removal of cobblestones, surface preparation, leveling, and then laying the new asphalt layer. The works will be carried out during daytime hours, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and will be divided into two phases to minimize disruptions.
The first phase will affect the area from San Francisco Street to approximately the middle of the alley, impacting the garage of the Bouza building for at least one week. During this period, garages at buildings Quintercon, La Marina, and El Duque de Santa Elena will be accessible from La Marina Street.
The second phase, from the middle of the alley to La Marina Street, will affect these latter three garages, with an expected closure of at least two days. Once the cobblestone demolition is complete, residents will be able to access their garages, although entry and exit will be prohibited during the working hours of the construction.
The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, acknowledged the daily mobility disruptions caused by these works but asked residents for patience, assuring that the final result will improve safety for pedestrians and drivers. The project is being carried out by the Department of Public Services, headed by Carlos Tarife.
Additionally, next week asphalt works will be carried out on Juan Romeu García and Eladio Roca Salazar streets in the Salud-La Salle district, using milling machinery for a quicker intervention.
