The municipal Karpa in Vecindario will host the XXIV National Dog Show and the XXXVIII International Dog Show this weekend, July 18th and 19th, bringing together more than 800 dogs.

The Canine Society of Las Palmas has chosen Santa Lucía de Tirajana as the venue for these significant canine gatherings for the third time. The event, initially planned for March, had to be postponed due to storm Therese. A new addition to the program for both days is an adoption parade featuring animals from the Animal Protection Center of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, offering attendees the chance to find a home for pets.
The international exhibition will feature participants from various autonomous communities on the Iberian Peninsula and from several European countries. Activities will commence at 9:00 AM each day and will include the presentation of several native breeds from the Canary Islands. The event was presented by the mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García; the Councilor for Animal Welfare, Mario Bordón; and the president of the Canine Society of Las Palmas, Jacinto Martín. García highlighted the municipality's capacity to host events of this scale and expressed gratitude for Vecindario remaining the host city after the postponement.
Jacinto Martín explained that this exhibition is one of the four mandatory events for the Spanish championship for dog shows, of which approximately 40 are organized annually in the country. He emphasized the City Council's cooperation in rescheduling the event after its suspension.
Mario Bordón underscored the importance of integrating animal welfare into municipal policies, recognizing the role of animals in daily coexistence and in assistance roles. The exhibitions aim to serve as a meeting point for breeders, professionals, and enthusiasts, combining canine competitions, the promotion of native Canarian breeds, and the encouragement of responsible adoption.
