The decision was made during an extraordinary session of the Board of Directors, where the situation of this infrastructure, which has been disused for 35 years and is integrated into port land, was discussed.
“"The building of the old port grain silo will not be demolished for the time being."
Initially, the Port Authority had announced the silo's demolition, at a cost of 990,140 euros by the company Hercal Diggers. However, this process has been suspended to initiate a study on the heritage values of the property.
The temporary halt responds to the Ministry of Culture's decision to initiate proceedings for the declaration of the silo as a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC), which would protect the structure from demolition.
