A total of 12 unemployed individuals have concluded the training in the new edition of the Teje Peques Cajasiete project, an initiative by the Sociedad de Desarrollo that combines textile manufacturing training with a social component. The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, highlighted that the project offers tools for job seeking and benefits vulnerable families through the crafted textile products.
Participants trained for over 300 hours in children's textile manufacturing and basic pattern making, along with modules to enhance their skills. The crafted material will be donated to centers such as CEIP Chimisay, CEIP Ágora, CEIP Menceyes, and CEIP Las Delicias.
The first deputy mayor and CEO of the Sociedad de Desarrollo, Carmen Pérez, explained that the training included personal competencies, labor market guidance, and entrepreneurship. The result is a catalog of over 300 items, including blankets, bibs, changing mats, snack bags, drawstring backpacks, sheet sets, outerwear, hats, children's outfits, trousers, vests, and dolls, all with real utility outside the classroom.
Companies such as Farobag, La Sastrería, Ubaldo Vestimenta, and Smil3s collaborated by opening their doors for non-laboral internships, receiving thanks for their commitment to employment policies.
The total training duration was 332 hours, including 150 hours for the textile manufacturing workshop, 56 hours for basic children's pattern making, labor market guidance sessions, digital skills, CV workshops, an entrepreneurship talk, and 100 hours of company internships.
Carmen Pérez thanked Fundación Cajasiete for its commitment to local development and labor market integration, emphasizing the alliance that boosts employability and creates social impact by supporting families and educational centers.
The president of Fundación Cajasiete, Fernando Berge, expressed the entity's satisfaction in being part of the project, whose objective is to generate social impact and offer training, not economic profit. All crafted material will be donated to schools for distribution to families in the municipality.
The closing ceremony was attended by the Councilor for Social Policies, Rosario González, the coordinator of the Ofra – Costa Sur district, Mara Antúnez, representatives from collaborating companies, and representatives from the beneficiary schools.
