The Auditorio de Tenerife begins its 2026-2027 season with the acclaimed work 'Afanador' by the Ballet Nacional de España (BNE), offering two performances on September 5 and 6.

Tickets for the two performances of the show, which has received nine awards, are now on sale. The shows will take place in the Auditorium's Sala Sinfónica, marking the BNE's return to the island after 16 years.
The Minister of Culture, José Carlos Acha, highlighted the importance of starting the season with a spectacle of this magnitude and announced affordable prices: 15 euros for general admission and 5 euros for those under 30. 'Afanador' is inspired by photographic catalogs by Ruven Afanador and promises a plastic and ephemeral experience with 39 dancers on stage.
José Luis Rivero, the Auditorium's artistic director, emphasized the continuous commitment to dance as a scenic discourse and the intention to continue with the current Mapas festival. He described the piece as one of the most important choreographically in Spain and with the greatest international projection for the BNE, thanking them for the technical complexity that allows the Auditorium to host such productions.
The performance, conceived by artistic director Marcos Morau, draws inspiration from Ruven Afanador's surrealist view of flamenco, similar to Morau's own development with his company La Veronal. Playwright Roberto Fratini noted that the work aims to reflect the photographer's perspective on his models.
With a total of nine awards collected between 2024 and 2025, 'Afanador' has become a benchmark in Spanish dance. Notable accolades include Best Spanish Dance and Flamenco Choreography at the 2024 Premios Godot, and at the 2025 Premios Max, where it won five awards, including Best Dance Production and Best Stage Direction for Marcos Morau.
The Ballet Nacional de España (BNE), founded in 1978 and currently directed by Rubén Olmo, is the leading public company for Spanish dance. Its mission is to preserve, disseminate, and transmit Spain's choreographic heritage, promoting contemporary creation and engaging new audiences.
Tickets, priced at 15 euros (5 euros for under 30s), are available on the website www.auditoriodetenerife.com, at the Auditorium's box office, and by phone. Discounts are available for students, job seekers, and large families.
