The Swedish company GöteborgsOperans Danskompani will perform at the Auditorio de Tenerife as part of the Mapas 2026 festival, presenting two shows that mark their only stop in Spain. The performances of 'Hammer', the company's greatest success, will take place on Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12. Subsequently, on Tuesday, July 14, a double bill featuring 'Ima' and 'Wild Poetry' will be presented.
'Hammer', choreographed by the award-winning Alexander Ekman, features 31 international dancers and reflects on modern egocentrism. This large-scale production, divided into two acts, has sold out tickets worldwide and addresses contemporary society with humor, inviting the audience to live life authentically. Ekman, known for his boldness and innovation, has created around 50 works.
The double bill will include 'Ima', by Sharon Eyal, a choreographer known for her hypnotic and powerful dance. The collaboration between Eyal and the Swedish company has toured globally, including previous works with Maria Grazia Chiuri, former head designer for Dior. Following a break, 'Wild Poetry' will be presented, a work by Hofesh Shechter, which blurs the line between parody and sincerity with dancers in perpetual motion. This is Shechter's second work for the company, after 'Contemporary Dance' (2019), and it has received critical and public acclaim.
The Mapas festival will close its 2026 edition on July 24 with 'Bodies of Water', a choreography by Spaniard Iván Pérez, artistic director of the German company Dance Theatre Heidelberg. The performance, featuring about ten international dancers, explores the deep physical and emotional connection between humans and water. This choreographic journey of intense sensory experience delves into water's transformative power.
Tickets for these performances are priced at a general admission of 15 euros, with discounts for those under 30, students, job seekers, and large families. A partial festival pass is available for 39 euros to enjoy these last three proposals. Tickets can be purchased on the website www.auditoriodetenerife.com, at the box office, and by phone at 902 317 327.
