Las Teresitas beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is preparing to host new nautical disciplines such as sailing and kayaking. The City Council has requested authorization from the Directorate General of Coasts to install seven containers for storing the necessary equipment.

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has taken a further step to expand the range of nautical sports at Las Teresitas beach. The request, submitted to the Directorate General of Coasts, aims to establish an area for disciplines like sailing and kayaking through the installation of seven containers for sports equipment storage.
The Directorate General of Coasts has opened a 20-day public information period for interested parties to submit their objections to the Council's proposal. The file details the request to install seven containers, which will be used to store "light vessels" and other material related to sports activities.

"Despite the fact that the 'chicharrero' municipality is practically surrounded by sea, the lack of spaces for practicing nautical activities is enormous, and the little that exists is not accessible to a large part of the citizenry."

According to municipal sources, these containers will not only facilitate the practice of new water-based disciplines but will also enhance existing activities on the beach, such as volleyball and beach tennis, and support lifeguard services. The initiative responds to a public demand for accessible spaces to enjoy the sea.
Las Teresitas beach already features a sports area established in 2022, including sand courts. The new proposal seeks to address identified shortcomings, particularly the need for "specific indoor premises or spaces for the deposit of sports equipment" linked to aquatic activities.
The containers, measuring approximately seven meters in length, 2.50 meters in width, and 2.60 meters in height, will be located near the lifeguard station, at access point number 10 of the beach. This expansion of the sports area is expected to become a reality before the end of the year, improving safety and conditions for outdoor sports.
The project has the support of Canary Islands sports federations, including those for Rescue and Lifesaving, Kayaking, and Sailing of Tenerife, which welcome the creation of a permanent and regulated sea access point to promote these disciplines in the area.
