The Canarian Government has overseen the progress of construction for 37 protected homes in the María Jiménez neighborhood of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a project aimed at alleviating housing shortages in the capital of Tenerife.

The Minister of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, along with the director of the Canarian Housing Institute (ICAVI), visited the construction site of 37 publicly promoted protected homes. According to the mayor, these homes are expected to be completed by early next year.
The project, with an award investment of 4,415,905.84 euros, is jointly funded by the City Council, the Government of the Canary Islands, and the Cabildo de Tenerife. The Canarian Government, through ICAVI, has allocated 19 million euros, while the Cabildo de Tenerife contributes an additional six million euros, totaling a global funding of 25 million euros to strengthen public housing construction in the capital of Tenerife.
The development, executed by VVO Construcciones, began construction on October 21, 2024, and is scheduled for completion by February 19, 2027. The building will offer various residential typologies adapted to different family and social needs, including one, two, three, and four-bedroom units, as well as two adapted for people with reduced mobility and one five-bedroom supervised dwelling.
The City Council has provided the urbanized land for this development, valued at 525,859 euros, and has also allocated land for the future 226 public homes in Cuevas Blancas, valued at 7,578,489.83 euros.

"We are currently building more than 2,000 homes across the Canary Islands and have over 4,000 planned. We want families to be able to develop their life projects on the islands without having to leave."
