Santa Cruz and La Laguna Celebrate Canary Islands Day with Over 40 Activities

Both Tenerife municipalities have coordinated cultural, gastronomic, and folkloric agendas for May 29th and 30th.

The city councils of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and San Cristóbal de La Laguna present their programs for Canary Islands Day, offering a wide array of cultural, gastronomic, and folkloric events on May 29th and 30th.

La Laguna will unfold its celebration across 11 simultaneous locations, aiming to bring popular culture, crafts, and gastronomy to all corners of the municipality. The historic center, Pueblo Hinojosa, San Roque, San Miguel de Chimisay, Los Baldíos, Barrio Nuevo, La Verdellada, Garimba (Guamasa), Bajamar, Tejina, and the La Candelaria neighborhood will host these initiatives.
The Plaza del Adelantado will be the central hub in La Laguna, featuring traditional games like 'juego del palo' and Canarian wrestling, drum workshops, children's activities, and tastings from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Musical performances will include the Agrupación Unión y Amistad, San Borondón, and the group Mestisay, with the collaboration of the Government of the Canary Islands.
Meanwhile, Santa Cruz de Tenerife has organized over 30 activities in an intensive 12-hour day on Saturday, May 30th, following the success of the May Fiestas. The celebration kicks off on Friday, May 29th, with the 'A Modo Canario' Wine Fair on La Noria street (6:00 PM - 11:00 PM) and a gastronomy and craft exhibition in the Plaza de España. Friday concludes with a concert by Los Cantadores in the Plaza de La Candelaria at 9:00 PM.
On Saturday, the Plaza de La Candelaria will host major musical acts starting at 5:00 PM with groups like Achamán, comedy from El Cristito and Yanely Hernández, followed by the presentation of the 'Premios Santa Cruz-Día de Canarias' awards, performances by Soul Sanet and José Vélez, and concluding with low-sound impact fireworks.
The Plaza de España will transform into the hub for traditional sports from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, featuring a wrestling ring for an institutional bout, demonstrations of 'salto del pastor', 'bola canaria', and 'garrote', as well as the ARTEFE Craft Fair.
The Alameda del Duque de Santa Elena will host the Traditional Food Contest, while La Noria street and the Plaza de la Concepción will continue the Wine Fair with folkloric performances and a Domino Tournament. The Plaza de Correos will feature a dedicated children's zone.
