The city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is preparing to welcome Pope Leo XIV on June 12, an event that will require significant traffic reorganization and enhanced security measures. The pontiff will conclude his pastoral visit to Spain with a Holy Mass on the city's port esplanade.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez has expressed the city's readiness for this historic occasion, highlighting the coordination among municipal departments to ensure maximum security. Meanwhile, Mobility Councilor Evelyn Alonso detailed an action plan subject to last-minute decisions by the State Security Forces and Corps.
The special operation will affect the TF-4, with total or restricted closures starting from 03:00 AM. The main event area, including avenues such as Constitución and Marítima, will be closed from 06:30 AM to 05:00 PM. Additional closures are expected on key roads like the TF-5 and La Salle avenue between 10:00 AM and 12:30 PM.
The Pope's departure, scheduled between 01:00 PM and 02:00 PM, will involve the closure of the port exit, the Los Llanos service road, and the Tres de Mayo tunnel, leading to diversions towards the Ingeniero Amigó de Lara tunnel.
Parking will be suspended on numerous streets from 00:05 AM on June 12, affecting roads like Méndez Núñez and El Pilar. Several public parking lots, including Parque Marítimo and the interchange esplanade, will be reserved for authorized vehicles or Titsa buses.
Public transport will also undergo significant changes. Anaga lines will terminate their routes at the Muelle Norte stop, and the tram service will have its route modified, ending at Ángel Guimerá or Plaza La Paz. Taxi stands in the event area will be disabled.
