The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has initiated the public information period for the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) ordinance, which will establish traffic restrictions on 92 streets in the city center to reduce pollution.

The measure, aimed at improving air quality and reducing noise, will affect gasoline vehicles registered before 2001 and diesel vehicles registered before 2006. Citizens and entities have a period of 30 working days, from May 12 to June 22, to submit allegations or suggestions through the municipal electronic headquarters.
Restrictions will apply from Monday to Saturday, between 7:00 AM and 8:00 PM. The delimitation of the LEZ is justified by high levels of atmospheric and acoustic pollution, the concentration of commutes, and the availability of public and non-motorized transport alternatives in the area.
Among the roads included in the LEZ are sections of Avenida del Barranco de Santos, Avenida de Anaga (Francisco La Roche), Avenida Marítima, and streets such as Adelantado, Ni Fú Ni Fá, Alfaro, La Noria (Antonio Domínguez Alfonso), Arquitecto Marrero Regalado, San José (Bethencourt Alfonso), Bouza, Callo de Lima, Candelaria, Carmen Monteverde, Castillo, Clavel, Cruz Verde, La X, Numancia, Doctor Miguel López González, Doctor Allart, El Pilar, El Saludo, El Sí, Emilio Calzadilla, Galcerán, Gaspar Fernández, General Gutiérrez, Imeldo Serís, Jesús Nazareno and José Murphy.

The ordinance includes a wide range of exemptions to facilitate access for affected vehicles, such as those belonging to LEZ residents or those registered in the Municipal Vehicle Tax census. Prior authorizations are also foreseen for vulnerable groups, such as owners unable to renew their vehicle due to economic incapacity or caregivers of elderly or dependent individuals.
