The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council and the Bishopric of the Nivariense Diocese have intensified coordination to organize the upcoming visit of Pope Leo XIV to the Tenerife capital, scheduled for June 12th. A large attendance is expected, necessitating a special security, mobility, communication, and logistics operation.
During a recent meeting between representatives of both institutions, operational details were reviewed. The implementation of access controls, including police tape and urban elements in some parts of the route, was discussed. In areas expecting higher concentrations of people, reinforced barriers and access checkpoints will be installed. Controls are also planned for sensitive areas such as the Government Presidency and Plaza de España, as well as access to the main religious event, to manage public arrival and ensure the smooth running of the activities.
Mobility will be a key aspect. The City Council is collaborating with Titsa and Metropolitano de Tenerife to enhance public transport services. The final traffic and street closure plan will be determined based on the final schedules and routes. Information campaigns will be launched targeting residents, businesses, and attendees to communicate restrictions and recommendations.
The logistical plan also includes the installation of ramps, medical stations, screens, and separate areas for press and authorities. These resources will be deployed according to the planned event spaces and expected attendance, aiming to provide the best conditions of safety, accessibility, and assistance for attendees.
