Public transport in the Tenerife capital has seen a significant rise, adding 389,347 more users. The Santa Cruz City Council interprets these figures as a confirmation of public transport's growing role in daily commutes.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez highlighted the importance of these service improvements within the municipal mobility strategy, aiming to establish the bus as a primary option for city travel. The Council plans to acquire 61 new vehicles to meet the increasing demand.
The districts of Ofra-Costa Sur and Suroeste account for the largest share of ridership, with approximately 4,877,000 passengers, representing 55.32% of the total. Ofra-Costa Sur led with 2,529,395 users (up 4%), followed by Suroeste with 2,347,746 (up 6.6%).
Meanwhile, the Centro-Ifara district recorded the highest percentage growth, with an 8.3% increase to 972,390 users, according to TITSA data. Salud-La Salle counted 1,589,401 passengers (up 3.9%), and Anaga saw 1,376,387 users (up 0.8%).
Lines 905 and 934 were the most utilized in absolute terms. Line 905 (Muelle Norte-Ofra) transported 1,485,944 people (up 5.7%), while line 934 (Intercambiador-Taco-Santa María del Mar-Añaza-Intercambiador) reached 1,476,824 passengers (up 7.4%).
Regarding the largest percentage increases, line 936 (Intercambiador-Añaza-Santa María del Mar-Taco-Intercambiador) grew by 142.7% to 8,748 passengers. Line 948 (Anaga) increased by 39.6% with 423 users, and the night line 971 (Intercambiador-Ofra) rose by 16.1% to 25,919 passengers.
