The council has carried out an exhaustive cleaning of the square and its surroundings, removing vegetation debris and a deteriorated wooden platform. These preventive actions, along with reinforced specific measures against rodents, have helped contain the issue in the area, which will remain under technical monitoring.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez highlighted the activation of coordinated protocols upon detecting any alert signs to prevent spread. Meanwhile, the Councilor for Environmental Sustainability and Public Services, Carlos Tarife, recalled that pest control is a continuous service combining prevention with rapid response to received notices.
The kiosk in Plaza del Príncipe, closed for several months and awaiting reassignment, along with the basement and the damaged platform, could facilitate shelter for these animals. Concurrently, the company responsible for the service, Rentokil Initial, continues with planned actions in educational centers and other neighborhoods of the capital.
The City Council requests citizen collaboration to report incidents through the SC Mejora application. Citizens are reminded of the importance of not leaving food waste in public areas and not feeding animals in public spaces to prevent the emergence of pests.
