Creativity, humor, and a desire to participate were the main themes at the El Sobradillo Community Center, where hundreds of seniors from Santa Cruz gathered for the tenth edition of the Sabiduría Fest. This municipal event, now a staple in the city's social calendar, offered a full day of performances including theater, music, dance, storytelling, monologues, and themed fashion shows.
Organized by the Santa Cruz City Council, through the Social Policies department and the Santa Cruz Vital program, the festival transformed the venue into a space for community. The audience's applause acknowledged months of preparation and work in the municipal workshops. The seniors themselves were the main artists, sharing with family and neighbors choreographies, theatrical readings, and songs prepared throughout the year, reflecting active aging through participation, culture, and social interaction.
“"The festival has become one of the most anticipated events for this group and highlights the talent, experience, and capacity of older adults to continue actively participating in the city's life."
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez emphasized the festival's importance as a showcase of seniors' talent and experience. Meanwhile, the Councilor for Social Policies, Charín González, highlighted that each performance is the result of year-round effort in municipal centers and workshops. She stressed that these meeting spaces are crucial for promoting active aging and combating loneliness.
With ten years of history, the Sabiduría Fest has become a platform where Santa Cruz de Tenerife celebrates its senior citizens, demonstrating that age is not a barrier to artistic expression and social participation.
