The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has approved the call for subsidies aimed at improving taxi driver safety and increasing vehicle accessibility.

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council will allocate 45,000 euros to each of the two lines of aid approved by the Governing Board: one for the installation of partitions and surveillance cameras in taxis, and another for adapting vehicles for the transport of people with reduced mobility.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez explained that the objective is to encourage the improvement of working conditions for taxi drivers and passengers, thereby promoting a safer and more efficient service. The preventive and dissuasive measures aim to protect professionals from risky situations, assaults, and non-payments.
The Councilor for the Taxi area, Gladis de León, indicated that this initiative responds to a long-standing demand from the sector. Special attention will be given to the most vulnerable groups, prioritizing license holders over 50 years old and women taxi drivers. Each beneficiary may receive up to 300 euros for the installation of safety equipment.
Regarding adaptations for people with reduced mobility, the municipality aims to increase the number of accessible taxis, which currently stands at eleven, far below the legally required figure. Beneficiaries of this subsidy line may receive up to 3,000 euros.
