The first phase of the park's renovation, including improvements to the exteriors and gardens, will conclude in December. The Santa Cruz City Council plans for citizens to enjoy the outdoor areas and the main building in early 2027. Concurrently, the progressive establishment of the first CaixaForum cultural center in the Canary Islands will begin in the rehabilitated building.
The second phase of works, starting in 2027, will involve the demolition of the Pérez Minik Theater to construct a new underground auditorium, which will also include a small parking area. This phase will be partly financed by the Cabildo of Tenerife.
The first phase, with an investment of 17 million euros, has been financed by the Government of the Canary Islands and the City Council. The works, initiated in June 2023, include the rehabilitation of the former La Asunción school and improvements to outdoor areas, such as gardens, a children's area, and a plaza with sea views.
The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, highlighted that the park will become an architectural and cultural landmark, positioning the city among major Spanish cultural capitals with the arrival of CaixaForum. The architect responsible for the renovation, Fermando Menis, described the project as "tremendously complicated and costly," emphasizing the recovery of historical and emotional details of the building.
