The Canary Islands Government's Ministry of Education is expanding the 'A timple in my school' project to 22 new educational centers, bringing the total number of participating institutions to thirty across Gran Canaria and Tenerife.

The initiative, coordinated by timple player Germán López, aims to introduce primary school students to the knowledge and practice of the timple, an emblematic instrument of Canarian popular music. Following a pilot experience last academic year, the project is now extending to twelve centers in Gran Canaria and ten in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The program combines practical workshops, concert-talks, and activities that connect music with subjects such as Language, Geography, History, and Art Education. The General Directorate for Curriculum, Inclusion, and Innovation, coordinated by David Pablos, is driving this expansion.
The pilot experience, developed in ten schools in Gran Canaria during the 2025/2026 academic year, concluded with a street parade in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria involving nearly three hundred schoolchildren. The project also promotes service-learning and intergenerational encounters.
The twelve new centers in Gran Canaria include schools in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Telde, Ingenio, Agüimes, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, and San Bartolomé de Tirajana. In Tenerife, ten centers from Santa Cruz de Tenerife are joining.
The project benefits from the collaboration of the Regional Federation of Folklore and Traditions Associations of the Canary Islands 8 Islas and the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council.
Separately, counselor Poli Suárez advocated in the Parliament of the Canary Islands for greater inclusion of Canarian content in the educational system, emphasizing its importance for students to learn about the archipelago's history, culture, and unique characteristics.
Suárez noted that current educational curricula integrate Canarian natural, historical, cultural, and linguistic heritage transversally. Since the 2024/2025 academic year, all non-university educational centers have a mandatory coordinator for Education of Canarian Natural, Social, and Cultural Heritage.
This role, along with the Canary Islands School Museums Network, contributed to the islands receiving the Manuel Bartolomé Cossío Award 2025. The network comprises twenty-four spaces dedicated to preserving and disseminating educational history and culture.
Additional initiatives from the Ministry include projects like Educarnaval and Experience Bridges, as well as resources such as CanariWiki and the Canarian Content Media Library.
