The Joint Commission for Cooperation and Coordination in Justice matters between the Government of the Canary Islands and the High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) was held today, September 30, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The meeting aimed to jointly address the main needs in justice matters, report on planned actions, and coordinate lines of work.
The meeting was led by the Minister of Presidency, Public Administrations, Justice, and Security, Nieves Lady Barreto, and the President of the TSJC, Juan Avello. The agenda included topics such as judicial infrastructure, the functioning of Courts of Instance, electronic judicial files, victim support offices, and new technologies.
Nieves Lady Barreto highlighted the importance of these commissions for tracking pending and resolved issues, mentioning the progress of implementing Courts of Instance under the Organic Law on Efficiency and the need to reinforce some courts next year.
For his part, Juan Avello, in his first meeting as TSJC president, emphasized that the commission is a "very powerful tool to always move in the same direction" and acknowledged the "extraordinary effort" of the regional government. He requested that "the opinions of those on the front lines" be considered to improve the public justice service.
Also attending the meeting were the Vice-Minister of Justice and Security, Cesáreo Rodríguez; the Director General of Relations with the Administration of Justice, Leonor Ferrer; the Technical General Secretary of the Ministry, Carmen Nery Cordobés; the President of the Contentious-Administrative Chamber of the TSJC of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Pedro Manuel Hernández Cordobés; the President of the Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Mónica García de Yzaguirre; and magistrate Adalberto de la Cruz.
