In the plenary session held last Tuesday, September 29, this agreement was given the green light, representing a significant step forward in the administrative process to make this long-awaited health infrastructure a reality. The new space will improve primary care and the conditions of health services for citizens.
The plot, located at numbers 13 and 15 Calle El Carmen, was acquired by the council on January 28, 2026, for 160,000 euros, fully funded by municipal resources. The purchase was made at the request of the SCS itself, with the aim of having a suitable space for the development of a new primary care infrastructure linked to the Tejina-Tegueste Basic Health Zone.
The agreement approved by the Plenary establishes the free transfer of the land to the SCS for its use in the construction, equipping, commissioning, and service provision of Tegueste's future health center.
“"A very important step for Tegueste to have the health center it needs and that our citizens have been demanding for some time. From the City Council, we have fulfilled our responsibility, acquiring a plot of 1,851 square meters with municipal funds and now making this land available to the Canary Islands Health Service. Our goal has always been to facilitate the realization of this health infrastructure so that Tegueste has facilities in line with the current and future needs of our municipality."
The Mayor of Tegueste, Norberto Padilla, highlighted that the approval of this transfer represents "a very important step" and reaffirmed the City Council's commitment to improving public services, especially in infrastructure that directly impacts the quality of life of the residents.
Padilla added that "it is now up to us to continue advancing in coordination with the Government of the Canary Islands and the Canary Islands Health Service so that the next administrative and technical steps are developed as quickly as possible and we can move forward with the technical project during the next year." The transfer of the plot completes a fundamental part of the procedure initiated by the Consistory.
