The Government of the Canary Islands distinguishes author Lola Suárez, a prominent voice in children's and youth literature in the islands, this Tuesday, October 20. The event will take place at 7:00 PM at the Espacio La Granja in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, celebrating Canarian Women Writers' Day with an institutional tribute and a performance inspired by her work.
This recognition aims to honor the literary and pedagogical trajectory of the author, whose work has helped introduce the archipelago's culture, history, and traditions to various generations of young Canarians. Admission is free until full capacity.
The institutional homage will open with remarks from the Minister of Universities, Science, Innovation, and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, Migdalia Machín, who will present the author with a diploma. Writer and educator Ana Belén Hormiga Amador will then provide an overview of Lola Suárez's biography and work.
The celebration will conclude with the performance of ‘La huella de Lola, entre la calima y la maresía’ (Lola's Footprint, Between the Sandstorm and the Sea Mist), a staged piece inspired by some of her most representative texts. Directed by Nacho Cabrera, it features performances by Sara Álvarez and Toni Báez, with piano accompaniment by Antonio Brito, exploring the characters, memory, and identity that permeate the Lanzarote author's work.
