The campaign reminds that most summer accidents are preventable through self-protection measures and prudence. Emergency professionals will offer advice on road safety, sea and mountain activities, large events, and emergency preparedness.
Under the premise that every avoidable accident leaves a story, the CECOES 112, under the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water of the Government of the Canary Islands, promotes the initiative ‘#NoSeasEstadística’. The goal is to recall essential tips for enjoying the summer without unnecessary risks on the coast, in summit areas, or at mass events.
Over the coming weeks, 112 Canarias will publish five videos on its social media channels (X, Instagram, Youtube, and WhatsApp). These videos, featuring professionals from security and emergency services working collaboratively from the CECOES 112 operational rooms, will offer self-protection recommendations for common summer situations: road travel, sea or mountain activities, patron saint festivals, pilgrimages, and emergency preparedness.
The campaign begins with a road safety message from the CECOES 112 operational room, under the slogan «This summer, stay cautious on the road and #NoSeasEstadística», emphasizing the importance of avoiding distractions, respecting safety distances, and speed limits.
The Guardia Civil will provide recommendations for sea activities, advising to plan the activity, check the weather forecast, inspect the condition of the vessel or equipment, and ensure necessary permits before setting sail or engaging in water sports.
The Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) will focus on mountain safety, reminding people to carry sufficient water, sun protection, and a charged mobile phone, as well as to avoid activities during high temperature episodes.
The General Corps of the Canarian Police will offer advice for patron saint festivals, pilgrimages, or processions, highlighting the use of reflective vests when walking alongside the road and always walking facing oncoming traffic.
Finally, the head of Civil Protection from the General Directorate of Emergencies, Montse Román, will demonstrate how to prepare an emergency kit with the basic elements needed to face any unforeseen situation.
Through this initiative, CECOES 112 reaffirms its commitment to the self-protection of the Canarian society and joins previous campaigns by the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water on drowning prevention and measures to avoid forest fires. The objective is to minimize the statistics of injured and deceased this summer.
