The digital platform set up for purchasing these vouchers experienced extremely high demand, with a virtual queue exceeding 26,000 people just minutes after activation. This program, designed to encourage local consumption, allowed many users to redeem their vouchers immediately at over 2,500 participating establishments throughout the archipelago.
The initiative, funded by the Ministry of Economy, Industry, Commerce and Self-Employed of the Government of the Canary Islands and managed in collaboration with the four Chambers of Commerce of the Canary Islands, has a total investment of 3 million euros. It is estimated to generate an injection of nearly 5 million euros (specifically 4,895,900 euros) into the commercial sector, combining government contributions and direct consumer investment.
“"A breath of fresh air for the islands' commercial fabric during a low season period when sales typically drop before the sales. We will continue to support initiatives like this to boost and help our self-employed and small businesses."
The vouchers, each with a face value of 50 euros (of which the consumer contributes 25 euros and the remainder is financed by the General Directorate of Commerce and Consumption of the Government of the Canary Islands), were distributed across all islands. The allocation was 35,988 for Tenerife, 5,245 for La Palma, 3,453 for La Gomera, 2,952 for El Hierro, 35,456 for Gran Canaria, 8,195 for Lanzarote, and 6,629 for Fuerteventura, all of which were completely sold out.
These vouchers are nominative, non-transferable, and non-refundable, and can only be used for in-person purchases at participating establishments on the island where they were acquired, thereby promoting local consumption. Consumers, who must be of legal age and present their DNI, can purchase a maximum of four vouchers per island (an investment of 100 euros, yielding 200 euros in purchasing power). Businesses, ranging from electronics to fashion and toy stores, can join the program until June 28 and have a redemption limit of 5,000 euros, which may be extended depending on the program's progress.
