After a brief period without alerts, the weather forecast for the Canary Islands once again includes warnings. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has reactivated alerts for the island of Gran Canaria due to the forecast of high temperatures.
This alert, responding to the arrival of the summer's fourth heatwave, will particularly affect the Iberian Peninsula but will also be felt in the archipelago. For now, the warning is focused solely on Gran Canaria.
The yellow alert will begin at 11:00 AM on Wednesday and, in principle, will end at 8:00 PM on the same day. It is not ruled out that the alert may be extended or applied to other islands in the archipelago.
The affected areas in Gran Canaria include the peaks and the eastern, southern, and western slopes of the island. Maximum temperatures of up to 35 degrees Celsius are expected, with a particular impact on the Tejeda basin and the southern and western midlands.
