Government spokesperson Alfonso Cabello stated the archipelago's intention to honor the established pact. The decision to vote in favor will remain regardless of who represents the Canarian government at the meeting.
The primary condition for the Canarian support is that resources linked to the Economic and Fiscal Regime (REF) remain outside the calculation of the regional financing system. Furthermore, the new model must provide the islands with approximately 1.3 billion euros in additional funds each year.
Cabello avoided confirming whether the Minister of Finance, Matilde Asián (PP), would attend the vote. The minister was on vacation, and her absence from an initially scheduled voting date caused controversy in July. On that occasion, the Minister of the Presidency, Nieves Lady Barreto (CC), was designated to replace her.
The postponement of the ministerial meeting, requested by the autonomous communities governed by the PP, has provided room for redefining attendance. The spokesperson reiterated that if the agreed premises are met, the Canary Islands' position will be favorable.
