Under the slogan 'In the Canary Islands, all ways of loving have their place', the regional executive has launched its campaign and a program of activities to commemorate LGTBIQA+ Pride Day. The Minister of Social Welfare, Candelaria Delgado, emphasized during the presentation the importance of making visible the commitment to equality and freedom so that all individuals in the community can live their orientation and diversity without fear.
Candelaria Delgado, accompanied by the Director General of Diversity, Celso Mendoza, noted that the special actions scheduled throughout June aim to increase visibility for the celebration, but stressed that 'Pride does not begin or end in June.' The Ministry of Social Welfare reported that meetings and exhibitions have been organized, both in the Canary Islands and in Madrid, to ensure that diversity is a reality supported by institutions.
The minister reiterated that the Canary Islands is a diverse, plural, and open land, and that the government works to ensure that every person lives with freedom, security, and pride throughout the year. For his part, Celso Mendoza highlighted the campaign's significance in honoring the struggles of previous generations and enjoying current rights, describing LGTBI rights as fundamental human rights for all Canary Islands citizens.
As a novelty, Arco-D Canarias has been highlighted, a service that brings social work professionals closer to LGTBIQ+ individuals and their families in Tenerife, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura. This pilot project, set to begin on June 28, aims to expand to the rest of the archipelago.
The program includes the traveling exhibition on 20 years of equal marriage and 'Geographies of LGTBIQ+ resistances in the Canary Islands,' which values the experiences of those who have contributed to a freer society. Reivindicative murals will also be created in Candelaria, El Paso, and Puerto del Rosario.
From June 23 to July 2, the Delegation of the Government of the Canary Islands in Madrid will host the program 'Islands with Pride, LGBTIQ+ conversations with Canary Islands talent.' This cultural space will feature talks on plastic and performing arts, literature, live podcasts, sports, and music, with the participation of various personalities from the Canary Islands' cultural and sports scene.
