The Government of the Canary Islands and the seven island water councils have reviewed the status of twenty strategic hydraulic projects, representing an investment of over 60 million euros.

During the 26th session of the Canary Islands Permanent Water Commission, held in Gran Canaria, the planning of the water cycle in the islands was evaluated. The meeting served to review the progress of hydrological plans and flood risk management plans, which must be submitted to the European Union before the end of 2027.
Key projects include sanitation improvements in El Paso, La Palma, as well as works in La Graciosa, El Hierro, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote. These interventions aim to strengthen territorial cohesion and ensure resilience against future drought periods.
The regional administration has expressed its intention to request that European Union water management regulations take into account the archipelago's specific circumstances, such as administrative fragmentation and high tourist pressure. Additionally, it was noted that there is no update regarding the 20 million euro state subsidy expected for 2026.
