Although most of the Canary Islands were outside the path of totality, favorable conditions for observing this astronomical phenomenon were enjoyed from Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura. This event is unique, as a similar total solar eclipse had not been seen in the region for 67 years.
The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) organized a special program to follow the eclipse live. The broadcast took place from Cerro del Otero, in Palencia, and could be followed via the institution's official YouTube channel.
