The Teatro Leal in La Laguna becomes the epicenter of Choni Mix this Wednesday, May 20th, a gathering celebrating emerging Canary Islands talent, with a focus on women and musical dissent.

The event, kicking off at 7:00 PM in the theater's chamber hall, will feature artist Nathy de la Cruz as presenter and performances by Nif.A, Cristina Mahelo, Kinewa, Kali Ninmah, and Sara Iballa. DJ sets by Perra Beata and Dadi Damas will provide the soundtrack for the evening. Tickets are available on Tickety.
Cristina Mahelo expressed her excitement for the collective connection: «In this buzz of Canary Islands artists, I feel very comfortable bringing a piece of who I am, of my current project encapsulated, always playing with interaction and improvisation with the audience, intercalating some songs from my musical proposal En tiempos de magua». She also previewed her summer schedule, which includes the Tropicalia festival and concerts in La Palma, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria.
Rapper Kali Nimah highlighted the collaboration with her colleagues from Colectivo 7.70, especially the joint show she will share with Sara Ibala: «For me, the important and special thing about this show is that Sara Ibala and I will be sharing the space in a joint show, and this is something that, besides creating a rich artistic mix, is beautiful and a wonderful memory for when we are old ladies». She is currently involved in two personal projects about which she will reveal more details soon.
Kinewa, a rapper with a hidden identity, showed enthusiasm for the gathering of «powerful Canary Islands women»: «It's going to be a very varied gig, so each one will have about 10-15 minutes, and I have prepared some fiery, danceable tracks, a show with dancers, ready to give it my all». Her schedule is packed with concerts, and she is working on a new album that promises to be «big, defiant, danceable, with a remix of various genres».
Ninf.A, an artist from Gran Canaria, emphasized the importance of the encounter and dialogue among the artists: «I think it's necessary to remember the person behind the project/product or sound. We often forget to present that humanity within the work system, especially in an industry as polarized and gentrified as music». Her current project is described as «organic, more human».
Sara Ibala shared her excitement about sharing the stage with Kali Ninmah, with whom she is part of Colectivo 7.70. «It will always be special to be on stage with my super Kali Ninmah; it's a pleasure to be able to nourish myself and grow with her, both professionally and personally», she stated. She will also debut an unreleased song and is about to launch her first full-length album.
