The initiative, supported by nearly sixty organizations and thousands of signatures, seeks to highlight the precariousness affecting the Canarian population. The organizers denounce a progressive erosion of basic rights such as access to housing, decent employment, and the protection of vulnerable groups.
The manifesto for the call emphasizes the importance of protecting healthcare, education, and equality, explicitly rejecting any hate speech, racism, or xenophobia. According to the organizers, the current model prioritizes economic interests over human dignity, hindering the development of solid life projects for citizens.
Defending democracy means defending public healthcare, defending education, defending decent employment, defending the right to housing, defending the environment, defending social services, and defending equality.
The demonstrations are scheduled for 12:00 PM at different locations across the islands. In La Palma, the meeting point will be the Plaza de España in Los Llanos de Aridane. In other islands, meeting points include Plaza Weyler in Tenerife, the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in Gran Canaria, the old Cabildo in Arrecife, Lanzarote, and the Government Delegation in Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura.
