Veteran journalist Armando Marcos Placeres passed away this Saturday, Canary Islands Day, at the age of 78 due to a heart attack, as confirmed by his close friends.

Marcos Placeres, a historic figure in journalism in the Canary Islands, spent a significant part of his professional career with public media outlets.
His career began at Radio Nacional de España, where he eventually served as a correspondent in London. Later, he joined Radio Atlántico and Radiocadena Española, a now-defunct public broadcaster, where he held the position of regional director.
In the 1980s, he moved to the News Services of TVE in Las Palmas. There, he became an emblematic face as the presenter of the news program Telecanarias, and also participated in other informative and entertainment shows.
His career and personal qualities earned him great affection both within and outside the journalistic profession.
