The Nuestra Señora del Carmen Neighbors Association, with the support of nearly fifty companies and the backing of the Villa de Mazo Town Council and the Cabildo de La Palma, has organized the anticipated La Bajita festivities. The celebration will run from August 31 to September 6, offering a program designed for family enjoyment with traditional games, children's activities, contests, music, and religious events.
Mayor Idafe Hernández highlighted the neighborhood's involvement in organizing each edition. "These are deeply cherished festivities in La Bajita; you can see it in the residents' commitment. The Association makes a great effort so that, when these days arrive, everyone can enjoy the celebrations," he stated.
For her part, the Councilor for Culture and Festivities, Mariela Ramos, emphasized the family-oriented nature of the celebration. "The program is designed for everyone to participate. There are traditional games and contests, but also many activities for children, such as the children's festival, the 'Caballitos de Palo', storytelling sessions, and the ginkana," she explained.
The festivities will kick off on Monday, August 31, with championships in envite, rey mala, and children's and adult's parchis, which will take place during the first days of the week. On Thursday, September 3, the women's fishing contest will be held, and the championship finals will be played.
Friday, September 4, will be dedicated to the youngest attendees with the 'Caballitos de Palo' children's contest and the children's festival. The group Siempre Ellas will also perform.
The weekend will bring more activities: on Saturday, there will be storytelling, a dance and bodycombat class, as well as children's and adult's ginkanas. The evening will feature a street party with Joven Sensación, DJ T3NAX, and Grupo Acuarela.
On Sunday, September 6, the main day, a mass in honor of Nuestra Señora del Carmen will be celebrated, followed by a procession accompanied by the Band of the Jerónimo Saavedra Acevedo Municipal Music School.
The award ceremony for the championships and the raffle draw for a pig and a carafe of wine will conclude the La Bajita festivities.
