The regional Parliament served as the venue this Tuesday for the institutional launch of Islas Canarias Televisión, Miramedia's new international channel. The event gathered prominent public authorities and representatives from the business sector of the Islands, marking the commencement of broadcasts for this space dedicated to the Archipelago's external promotion.
This launch follows the announcement on May 29th of Miraplay, the audiovisual platform from the Canarian group Miramedia, offering free access to its content across various devices. Both projects underscore the group's expansion strategy and its adaptation to new technologies and audiovisual consumption models.
Miramedia's director, Manuel Artiles, emphasized the significance of presenting this project from the regional Chamber, highlighting its role in the social and democratic development of Canarias. Islas Canarias Televisión thus becomes the first channel exclusively dedicated to showcasing the Archipelago's identity, history, culture, nature, and society on an international level.
“"The home of the Canarians"
Manuel Artiles revealed that the concept for an international channel for Canarias originated from a conversation with former Canary Islands President, Adán Martín, during the early days of Mírame TV. What was once an ambitious project for a local television station has now materialized two decades later, thanks to technological advancements and new global distribution channels.
The new channel will be accessible live via Miraplay, the official website islascanarias.tv, and other national and international platforms with which collaboration agreements are being finalized. Furthermore, Islas Canarias Televisión will be present in global hotel groups through a project supported by the Spanish Government and the European Union, aiming to bolster Canarias's external promotion and bring its reality and opportunities closer to international visitors.
The primary objective of Islas Canarias Televisión is to project the Archipelago's values, opportunities, and strengths, thereby reinforcing its international image as an attractive destination for investment, business development, innovation, culture, tourism, and job creation.
The channel's programming will feature a wide array of content with a Canarian stamp: documentaries, reports, cultural programs, shows on traditions, sports, artistic creation, and the social reality of the eight islands, alongside live broadcasts of significant Canarian events and celebrations. This audiovisual offering aims to display the richness and uniqueness of this distinct territory.
“"Today we take another step in our commitment to serve Canarian society"
Manuel Artiles also highlighted that the project will enable thousands of Canarians residing abroad to maintain a lasting connection with their homeland and roots, reinforcing the channel's public service mission to contribute to the Archipelago's social and economic progress.
