The La Gomera Council has allocated 350,000 euros for 2026, aimed at the rehabilitation and improvement of housing accessibility on the island, renewing an essential program with Provivienda.
This joint initiative between the island institution and Provivienda continues a project launched the previous year. Its main objective is to carry out reforms that eliminate architectural barriers, such as adapting bathrooms, improving access to homes, and resolving humidity issues.
“
"This project provides continuity to the work carried out by both entities during 2025, which in its previous phase already allowed the adaptation of 22 homes with the forecast of incorporating 30 more this year."
The fundamental goal of these actions is to transform homes in La Gomera into safe and functional spaces. This enables elderly or dependent individuals to continue living in their usual residences, enjoying the highest possible quality of life.
“
"This program is a fundamental tool so that our elderly are not forced to leave their homes due to a lack of adequate conditions. By improving accessibility, the autonomy of the elderly in their own municipality is strengthened, preventing displacement and improving their social integration."
The funded reforms focus on eliminating physical obstacles, including bathroom adaptations and improved accessibility at home entrances and within rooms. These interventions not only facilitate mobility but also help prevent domestic accidents and enhance the overall well-being of beneficiaries.
Provivienda is the entity responsible for executing the program, combining technical intervention with social support. The process includes an initial diagnosis of each home's needs and a study of the elderly person's situation, ensuring that reforms are tailored to their specific mobility challenges.
