Eleven performers, under the direction of Mark Hampson, are fine-tuning their performance in El Hierro for this tour. The island of El Hierro will host the first concert this Sunday, July 17, at 7:30 PM, in the Auditorio de La Peña.
Migdalia Machín, Minister of Culture for the Regional Government, highlighted JOCAN as a benchmark for young Canarian musical talent, providing professionalization opportunities for hundreds of emerging musicians. "It's been almost ten years providing hundreds of emerging musicians with fundamental orchestral practice for their professionalization, in all formats," stated Machín. She added that the tour, being chamber-based, will allow music to reach "corners of the eight islands, including less common venues".
The program '¡A todo bronce!', referencing the material of brass instruments, marks JOCAN's 25th encounter. The tour will continue in La Palma (July 18, 7:00 PM, San Andrés Apóstol Church), La Gomera (July 19, 6:00 PM, Auditorium of La Gomera), and Tenerife (July 20, 8:00 PM, Santo Domingo Church of La Orotava, in collaboration with the Villa's Chamber Music Festival).
After a break, the concerts will resume on July 23 in La Graciosa (7:30 PM, Inocencia Páez Sociocultural Center), followed by Lanzarote (July 24, 7:30 PM, Benito Pérez Armas Cultural Center in Yaiza), Fuerteventura (July 25, 8:00 PM, Antigua Church), and will conclude in Gran Canaria (July 26, 8:00 PM, Municipal Cultural Center of La Aldea de San Nicolás).
The tour ensemble consists of two French horns, four trumpets, four trombones, and one tuba. The repertoire includes 20th-century works for brass, such as 'Fanfare pour La Peri' by Paul Dukas, 'Sonata Pian e Forte' by Giovanni Gabrieli, 'A Londoner in New York' by Jim Parker, 'Three more cats' by Chris Hazell, and 'Tientos y Danzas' by Gareth Wood. Musical direction is by Mark Hampson, a renowned British musician.
Following this, JOCAN will begin preparing for its 'Raíces' tour in September, alongside Los Sabandeños and Juan Floristán, commemorating the sixtieth anniversary of Los Sabandeños and the tenth of JOCAN, with performances in the Canary Islands, Barcelona, and Madrid.
