The Rubicón Folk Group once again demonstrated the power of folk roots as a symbol of unity during the Los Remedios festivities in Yaiza. Their display of music, song, and dance gathered exponents from the Canary Islands dedicated to perpetuating customs and traditions.
The Rubicón Festival, now established as the most representative and attended folk event of the year in southern Lanzarote, featured this edition's 'Roots that Unite Us' performance. The event invited singers and dancers from eleven Lanzarote groups, representing all seven municipalities of the island, in a clear public statement about the value of regional heritage and the need for its preservation and dissemination.
On stage, Rubicón performed accompanied by distinguished guests. Couples from the groups Timbayba (Tinajo), Malpais de La Corona (Haría), Guagime (Tahíche), Coros y Danzas (Arrecife), and Güerma (Tías) showcased Canarian dance. Meanwhile, the groups La Peña (San Bartolomé), Los Campesinos (Arrecife), Guanapay (Teguise), Gaida (Tías), and the parranda Los Buches (Arrecife) contributed the strength and emotion of prominent Lanzarote voices.
This folk gathering promoted the union of groups from Lanzarote to look back at the past and reaffirm the relevance of traditions through committed individuals who reinterpret them, make them their own, and foster collective audience participation.
The show began with a beautiful poetic introduction by Isabel Cabrera, who presented each invited group. Subsequently, the music, song, and dance program prepared by Rubicón commenced, hosted by announcer Francisco José Navarro. The Rubicón Folk Group, as usual, paid great attention not only to the musical content but also to the meticulously prepared stage and decorative details.
The night was a delight of Canarian folklore, featuring performances of isas, polcas, siote, folías, sorondongo, seguidillas, and malagueñas, reviewing various styles of the rich Canarian repertoire, interpreted with respect and good taste by the worthy representatives of the island's tradition.
The City Council, presided over by Óscar Noda and through the Councilor for Festivities, Daniel Medina, invites the people of Lanzarote to continue participating in the Los Remedios festivities, whose program runs until September 9th.
